Conclusion, Investment Implications, Strategy

We exited Jly 16th long idea T-Mobile US, Inc. (TMUS) and Jun 22nd long idea Costco Wholesale Corporation (COST) this morning for a 3% loss and 9% gain, respectively.

Analysis and Rationale

We typically close out our long ideas before quarterly earnings reports are released to avoid the event risk and price volatility that often accompanies them.  TMUS is expected to report earnings on 07/29/2021 after market close.  In addition, TMUS has been trading into our $144.51 stop for the past seven sessions, so we exited the idea on the opening this morning at $144.85.

According to NASDAQ.com:

  • T-Mobile US (TMUS), Inc. is expected* to report earnings on 07/29/2021 after market close. The report will be for the fiscal Quarter ending Jun 2021. According to Zacks Investment Research, based on 15 analysts’ forecasts, the consensus EPS forecast for the quarter is $0.52. The reported EPS for the same quarter last year was $0.61.

In the case of COST, the stock had stalled at the $424.00 per share area for the past 3 days so we made a money management decision to take a nice profit on the stock.  COST also outperformed the benchmark S&P 500 (SPX) by 4% while our long idea was in effect.
